Educational Foundation
The AAPL Educational Foundation, Inc. is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 charted under the laws of Texas. The mission of the foundation is to promote education for the members of AAPL and the general public. The foundation is also authorized to undertake such activities as are reasonably anticipated to promote the welfare of the foundation.
The foundation provides financial support through grants to support education for AAPL members and the public. The foundation also provides financial support through grants for AAPL members who have suffered financial loss due to natural disasters.
The Foundation’s Mission
- Promote education, instruction and training for members to improve or develop their capabilities
- Instruct the public on subjects useful to individuals and beneficial to the community
- Further the advancement of education
- Support other charitable purposes, such as natural disaster relief for members

Educational Foundation Grants
Since 2015, the Educational Foundation has awarded more than $475,000 in education grants, $66,000 in professional development grants for AAPL members and $727,000 in disaster relief.

Education Grant Donation
The Educational Foundation grants up to $90,000 in support of education.
Grants awarded by the foundation are intended to help fund projects and programs that (i) support the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), (ii) promote education, instruction, and training for the members of the AAPL to improve or develop their capabilities, (iii) instruct the public on subjects useful to individuals and beneficial to the community, and (iv) further the advancement of education.
Disaster Grant Donation
Disaster relief grants to AAPL members vary greatly from year to year due to the unpredictable nature of natural disasters. The foundation has made financial grants to AAPL members affected by flooding, wind damage due to hurricanes, fires and landslides. In 2017, the foundation made disaster relief grants to AAPL members totaling in excess of $600,000.
Blankenship Family Horizon Award
The AAPL Educational Foundation established the Blankenship Family Horizon Award in 2019 to recognize a trailblazing female land professional who is a leader in our industry and has distinguished herself within the industry, in her career and has supported AAPL and its mission.
Former AAPL President Wayne Blankenship, CPL (1975), provided funds to AAPL in the early ’90s to support women's auxiliaries in memory of his wife, Mary K. Blankenship. This grand gesture from Wayne to his late wife, Mary, continues on with the presentation of the Horizon award.
