Legislative & Public Advocacy
If you’ve been keeping up with our BOI Corporate Transparency Act updates, TREC Wind Leasing updates and Governmental Affairs reports, you know it is a crucial time for AAPL to have a strong voice in lawmaking buildings. Our lobbying team is diligently working to expand protections for members, like the ones seen in the AAPL-sponsored Texas Landman Bill, and by scoring more bill-sponsoring wins this year. Additionally, our Bill Tracking Report informs our members of pending laws that could impact landmen. As of this writing, AAPL is tracking and analyzing 776 bills that could affect our members, which breaks last year’s record of 655, and it’s only April!
Season one of the Landman TV series has shined an unprecedented spotlight on our profession. While Hollywood has brought the drama, AAPL has been busy delivering the facts on the land profession and its vital role in the energy industry with strategic media relations, episode-by-episode analysis on AAPL’s new podcast Landman Now and frequent social media and email communication. AAPL has embraced the new attention while constantly rebutting some of the new misconceptions the show has created.
Resources, Renewables & Recruitment
Our award-winning Landman magazine has continued to be the premier journal of the energy land management profession, bringing important updates and thought-provoking editorials to members. AAPL’s updated Compensation Survey Report showed it's a financially healthy time to be a landman, especially a certified landman! Resources like our Membership Directory, Online Member Search and Mentorship Program keep our members well connected and prepared.
AAPL has ensured the landman’s role in the growing world of renewable energy with legislative advocacy, new Solar Shared Use & Access Agreement model form, increased presence at RE events, new RE recruiting materials and evolving RE educational offerings.
AAPL’s industry recruiting endeavors at school counselor conferences, high schools and universities, including our AAPL Accredited University Programs, have helped expand the land profession’s footprint and inform young professionals that the land profession is a viable and fulfilling career option.
New Member Services
We're excited for new offerings and events this upcoming membership year! New affiliate partners — Energy Hire, Rowland and Energy Domain — will soon offer member-exclusive discounts for their services, which are designed specifically for energy professionals. We will continue fine-tuning benefits like our recently updated career center and new landman toolkit. A new Association Management System will launch this membership year, ushering in an improved online membership experience.
The inaugural Oklahoma Energy Institute in 2024 was a resounding success and will return Dec. 4 to OKC and the brand-new West Texas Energy Institute will debut on Oct. 1 in Midland. The new institute joins AAPL’s stacked professional development and networking offerings spanning across North America, including Annual Meeting, NAPE Summit and free Field Landman Seminars. Active members, don't forget to use your Professional Development Assistance on these events, which more than makes up the cost of membership!
AAPL continues to strengthen our strategic relationship with industry allies, including our Alliance Partners Program, Corporate Membership Recognition Program and Affiliated Local Associations. While these allies are vital to our advocacy efforts and the ability to provide our must-have member benefits and programs at excellent value, the ultimate industry ally is you! We simply cannot accomplish our goals without the strong backing of our members.
Now more than ever, the industry needs skilled energy professionals, and AAPL is here to help you access the specific tools you need to lead through the challenges ahead. We hope you continue to help us power the profession by renewing your membership today.
Sincerely,
